JBLE's new Legal Assistance structure

By Capt. Morgan Engling 633d Air Base Wing Assistant Staff Judge Advocate

Beginning Oct. 1, the joint base transition will be complete and Joint Base Langley-Eustis will assume full operational capability. Both the Army and the Air Force provide legal assistance services to eligible individuals. As part of joint basing, the JBLE legal offices will have one joint legal assistance mission, with several changes to the structure of the program required in the short term.

· With the increased responsibility for mobility and deployment readiness for a larger active duty service member population across JBLE, retirees and dependents of retirees will now be seen by appointment only until the additional manpower is in place to resume normal operations at both the Langley Law Center and the Eustis Legal Assistance Office. Call 764-3277 for an appointment at the Langley Law Center or call 878-3031 ext. 222 for an appointment at the Eustis Legal Assistance Office. This does not impact obtaining powers of attorney or notorial services at either location. Additionally, retirees and their dependents may also contact the Naval Legal Service Office (NLSO) at 341-4491 to schedule legal assistance appointments with a judge advocate .

· The Langley Law Center will maintain walk-in legal assistance hours for active duty members and their dependents on Mondays from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., and Thursdays from noon to 2 p.m.. However, active duty Air Force personnel in uniform will have priority.

· The Eustis Legal Assistance Office will maintain walk-in legal assistance hours for active duty members and their dependents on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1-4 p.m. The Eustis Legal Assistance Office also will continue to provide appointments for active duty and dependents on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. However, active duty Army personnel in uniform will have priority. Contact the Eustis Legal Assistance Office at 878-3031 ext. 222 for an appointment.

· Powers of attorney and notary services will continue to be available on a walk-in basis at the Langley Law Center from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Powers of attorney and notary services will continue to be available at the Eustis Legal Assistance Office on a walk-in basis from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursdays.

We look forward to continuing to serve the JBLE community's legal needs. If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment, contact the Langley Law Center at 764-3277 or the Eustis Legal Assistance Office at 878-3031 ext. 222.
