Langley kicks off 2010 CFC

By Airman 1st Class Jason J. Brown 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The Langley Air Force Base Combined Federal Campaign kicked off Sept. 27 in hopes of meeting this year's goal of $210,750. The campaign will run through the first week of November. The CFC is the world's largest and most successful annual workplace charity campaign.

To promote the campaign, Langley will host several events over the coming weeks, including a kick-off run scheduled for Oct. 8 at 7 a.m. at the Air Combat Command fitness center, followed by a free picnic at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park. A softball and kickball tournament is planned for Oct. 15, and a CFC Fitness Challenge is scheduled for Oct. 29.

With more than 300 campaigns worldwide, CFC contributors raise millions of dollars annually. Here at Langley, CFC fundraising donates nearly 25 percent of the total contributions annually for the Virginia Peninsula.

"The Combined Federal Campaign enables each of us to make a difference, to have a positive impact," said Gen. Norton A. Schwartz, Chief of Staff of the Air Force. "We ask that you give thoughtful consideration to supporting the 2010 Combined Federal Campaign."

Every group and squadron has dedicated CFC representatives with donation forms and informational brochures for the thousands of organizations to which one can donate. Each year, CFC representatives strive to contact each Langley member to ensure they have the opportunity to donate.

"Help support your favorite charity through the CFC," said Chaplain (Capt.) David Barns, the Langley CFC coordinator. "Every little bit helps, so let's surpass our 2010 goal and make a difference in the lives of millions."
