LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The Eaglewood Golf Course will host two national-level military golf tournaments in October, welcoming nearly 70 of the best active-duty golfers in the nation to Langley Air Force Base to compete for a championship title.
The Air Force Golf Championship is scheduled for Oct. 13 through 20 at the course, and will feature 32 participants, all active-duty Airmen. The six men and three women who place best in the Air Force Golf Championship will represent the Air Force in the Armed Forces Championship, which begins Oct. 21 and runs through Oct. 27. A total of 36 golfers representing all branches of the military will complete in the Armed Forces Championship.
The first round of the Air Force Golf Championship will take place Oct. 15 following two days of arrivals for competitors. Participants will play four rounds, with the final round preceding the awards ceremony Oct. 26. Following arrivals and a practice day, the first ofr four rounds of competition in the team-based Armed Forces Championship will begin Oct. 23 with a final round and awards banquet scheduled for Oct. 26.
According to Eaglewood's Karen Elgin, Armed Forces Championship tournament winners will receive medals, provided by the Armed Forces Sports Council, which is responsible to the senior military advisor for all matters pertaining to the organization and administration of armed forces' participation in national and international sports competitions.
Mrs. Elgin said the staff at Eaglewood is proud to have been selected to host the events.
"Eaglewood is honored to have been selected to host both the Air Force Golf Championships and the Armed Forces Championship," she said. "We have a magnificent golf course facility and are pleased to have the opportunity to host both prestigious events."
