Senior Airman Zachary Wolf

Home Unit: 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va.

Location: Kabul, Afghanistan

What do you do? Document the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan. Basically I shoot photos and write articles/blogs about the training mission here in Afghanistan to set up a self sustaining Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) consisting of the Afghan National Police, Afghan National Army and the Afghan Air Force.

What will you remember about your deployment 20 years from now? I think the landscape, which is amazingly beautiful from the air.

What's the most useful item you packed? Deodorant, it was hot at the beginning although it is cooling off now.

What has been the highlight of your tour? Working with the different nations that are in support of Operation Enduring Freedom here in Afghanistan.

What's the best part of the deployment?
The Afghan food has to be at the top of the list that and the hospitality of the Afghans we come in contact with.

The worst part? Being away from my wife.

What do you do during down time? Talk to the wife, read, and the occasional video game.

What is the first thing you will do when you return? Kiss my wife.

What is the first thing you will eat when you return? I am thinking Chick-fil-a

What insight experience will you take away from your time over there? That we are making a difference here in Afghanistan and my job is making a difference (although it may be small) over here also.

What do you miss the most? My wife.

How is your job that you are doing now different from the job back stateside? Right now it's focused on shooting photos of Afghans and the training mission, back home it's covering mostly retirements and promotions.

Have you tried the local cuisine? Oh yes, I have tasted and seen it is good!

What do you think about what you hear on the news from what is going on stateside? I try to check the news daily to keep informed and think "I wish they would post more 'good news' to read about."

Do you have plans for any extra money that you might be making from this deployment? Actually we do, we are going to pay off most of our debt... our credit cards are already paid off and next is our vehicles. It is going to be so nice to take a huge bite out of our debt.

About when are you to return? March 2011.
