FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
Soldiers of the 510th Human Resource Company, Special Troops Battalion, 7th Sustainment Brigade, one of the most deployed units in the Army, conducted a deployment ceremony Feb. 2 at the STB dayroom. The group of six, led by team leader Staff Sgt. Sandra Shakir, deployed to Afghanistan for one year.
Team members stood before family members, friends and STB leaders as Chap. (Capt.) Dowon Suh provided words of encouragement during the invocation. The playing of the national anthem followed suit with audience members standing and facing the colors, taking part in a time-honored tradition with the team of Soldiers standing before them.
"I feel confident and ready to get this mission started and bring everybody back safely," said Sergeant Shakir.
This will be the third deployment for the 38-year-old human resources NCOIC. The Long Island, N.Y., native shared these words as she headed out the door, "We are well trained and ready to go."
During their 12-month deployment the team will play a vital role as they conduct accurate personnel accountability for entering, transiting or exiting Soldiers in and out of Afghanistan while at the same time conducting the reception, return-to-duty, Rest and Relaxation, replacement and redeployment Personal Administration Team mission.
