Fort Eustis stays combat ready

By Tetaun Moffett 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The Modern Army Combative Program is a five-day training course focused on three basic fighting strategies: close the distance, gain dominant position and finish the fight. Upon completion, each student is responsible for learning Skill Level 1 tasks.

According to Sgt. 1st Class Luis Romero, United States Army Aviation Logistics School and combative instructor, the training helps Soldiers and Airmen learn basic concepts in a simulated war time setting. However, during the training exercises, safety is the first priority. While several installations have had to discontinue their combat training due to safety requirements, Fort Eustis continues its program with well-trained and equipped instructors who maintain strict safety guidelines. The training can become challenging when female students pair with male students during several basic fighting strategies.

"It really doesn't matter if you're male or female, it's about technique and in combat training Soldiers are Soldiers. We have a lot of respect for our female Soldiers in training, but they are all treated as equal," said Sgt. 1st Class Romero.
