LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
Families, friends and fellow Airmen braved rain and wind to welcome home about 20 Airmen from the 633d Civil Engineer Squadron March 6 following a six-month deployment to Afghanistan.
While deployed, the team provided base operations support, including infrastructure development and maintenance, to forward operating bases and combat outposts.
The Airmen were part of nearly 100 633 CES personnel currently deployed around the world, marking the squadron's largest deployment since Operation Desert Storm in 1990.
"We contributed a lot of effort and got a lot accomplished. We really grew as a team there," said Staff Sgt. Chad Umipeg, 633 CES engineering assistant.
"These guys did and always do an excellent job. The 633 CES is all in," said Lt. Col. Marc Vandeveer, 633 CES commander. "That said, we're really glad to have them back."
