Security forces first sergeant earns top honor at 9 AF awards banquet

By Airman 1st Class Jason J. Brown 633d Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Senior Master Sgt. John Rogers, 633d Security Forces Squadron first sergeant, earned the Ninth Air Force's First Sergeant of the Year Award at the 2010 9 AF Outstanding Performer of the Year Awards Banquet at the James H. Rainwater Conference Center in Valdosta, Ga., March 10.

Sergeant Rogers is the second consecutive 633 SFS first sergeant to win the 9 AF-level award.

"I feel honored," he said of the award. "First sergeant duty is all about taking care of others and working in the background. To be put in the forefront feels very humbling."

The 633d Medical Group nominated Sergeant Rogers for the award based upon his wealth of experience and commitment to developing Airmen. A distinguished graduate of the Senior NCO Academy, he serves as president of the Langley First Sergeants Council and teaches professional development courses.

According to Sergeant Rogers, his dedication to making a positive impact on the unit is the driving force behind his success.

"Tending to the Airmen of one of the most dynamic squadrons in the wing is very challenging, but rewarding," he said. "The high operations tempo and deployment ratio keeps me pretty busy, but I really enjoy being able to offer my support to our defenders. It's the least I can do for our warriors."

The Air Combat Command 2010 First Sergeant of the Year Award will be announced at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., next month.
