FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
Under the guidance of the Fort Eustis Environmental Division, Soldiers, family members, Department of the Army civilians and contractors highlighter yellow-colored t-shirts, gloves and masks and kicked off Earth Week with the Nature Trail clean-up Monday.
Planting azaleas, raking pebbles and mulch, and collecting trash and other debris along the trail, the volunteers brought the trail out of its winter state, renewing it for use by runners, hikers and picnic-ers during the warm spring and summer months.
The clean-up was the first in a series of events for the annual weeklong observance. Other projects and activities included Kids' Earth Day poster contests and rain garden plantings at General Stanford Elementary School, Tug boat tours around the James River Reserve Fleet, tree plantings, and a Box Turtle Hunt.
The week closes out today- Earth Day, with an Eco-trivia Nature Walk/Earth Day lunch at Training Area 9 near Jacobs Theater from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
