LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The USAF Hospital Langley emergency room will no longer need to relocate, as contractors completed the façade installation over the Memorial Day weekend, six weeks ahead of schedule.
Hospital administrators initially planned to relocate the emergency room and related services to allow the work to take place. The construction project, which involved the installation of 45 energy-efficient brick panels on the south side of the hospital's east wing, was scheduled for completion over six consecutive weekends.
Prime weather conditions, however, allowed workers to install the 30-ton panels in four days, negating the need for relocation and allowing the hospital to offer uninterrupted service to patients. Emergency services will remain in their current location with normal capabilities and operating hours until a later phase of remodeling.
