LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
In an effort to protect U.S. military members, the Navy Region Mid-Atlantic commander designated several Hampton Roads-area establishments off-limits, as outlined in a policy letter dated July 7.
The Joint Armed Forces Disciplinary Control Board of Southeastern Virginia identified seven establishments as off-limits to military members. Military members are prohibited from entering the premises of and conducting business with the following:
· Hampton Pipe and Tobacco, 86 W. Mercury Blvd., Hampton, Va., 23669
· Hampton Pipe and Tobacco, 15435-B Warwick Blvd., Newport News, Va., 23608
· Lazy Days, 731 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. Suite B, Newport News, Va., 23601
· Mellow Smoke Tobacco Shop, 1948 Diamond Springs Rd., Virginia Beach, Va., 23455
· Outer Edge Gifts, 760-B J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, Va., 23601
· Somewhere in Time, 92 W. Mercury Blvd., Hampton, Va., 23669
· Atlantis Gentleman's Club, 446 Oceana Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va., 23454
In addition, Blazin' Herbs, located at 85 W. Mercury Blvd., Hampton, Va., 23669, is off limits to Navy personnel.
According to Capt. Eric Morley, 633rd Air Base Wing assistant staff judge advocate, failure to adhere to these prohibitions is a violation of Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice: Failure to obey order or regulation. Punishment for the violation ranges from commander's reprimand to court martial proceedings.
"Most of the establishments on the list are banned because they sell controlled substances, such as Spice and bath salts," Captain Morley said. "Frequenting these places implicates drug abuse, which requires commanders to begin the discharge process."
