LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
Brenda Cook, the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron deputy base civil engineer, earned the Air Force Association's 2011 Outstanding Air Force Civilian Senior Manager of the Year Award for her accomplishments in the civil engineering field.
Ms. Cook's achievements led the CE team to several Air Combat Command awards and pioneered the squadron into joint basing during the standup of Joint Base Langley-Eustis.
For example, Ms. Cook spearheaded environmentally-conscious construction and infrastructure development projects, such as installation of ACC's first geothermal wells and improved recycling programs.
In addition, she implemented energy efficiency measures to reduce Air Force spending, and drove prevention and recovery efforts to protect base infrastructure from nor'easter-related damage.
"It's very humbling to be selected for this award and an honor to be part of the 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron team," she said. "The professionals of this squadron perform phenomenal work each day to support the diverse missions of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, and it's a pleasure to come to work in such an exciting environment."
Lt. Col. Marc Vandeveer, the 633rd CES commander, praised Ms. Cook's "consummate professionalism," attributing her accolades to her "rare combination of natural leadership, brilliant vision and rock-solid integrity."
"Brenda's the best that I've worked with bar-none, and will continue to impact the entire civil engineer community at its highest levels," he added.
Ms. Cook will receive her award in September at the AFA's 2011 Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Cook, a native of Pine Bluff, Ark., has served the Air Force for nearly 20 years in a variety of civil engineering positions, joining Team Langley in 2005.
