JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
On Saturday, Aug. 27, Joint Base Langley-Eustis will close Langley Air Force Base to all non-mission essential personnel at 9 a.m., and will close Fort Eustis to all non-mission essential personnel at 1 p.m. in preparation for Hurricane Irene, which is projected to affect the local area Saturday evening into Sunday.
Langley AFB will remain closed through Monday, Aug. 29.
At midnight Friday, Langley AFB will implement a single point of entry at the LaSalle Gate. All other gates will be closed to inbound traffic. Weather conditions may dictate further restrictions.
The path of Hurricane Irene has accelerated and necessitates changes to the plans for Langley AFB gate closures.
JBLE is preparing for heavy precipitation, high winds, and possible storm surge and flooding associated with Hurricane Irene.
As conditions change, updates will be made available.
