Langley food service to compete for annual Hennessy Trophy

By Tony Skwirut 633rd Force Support Squadron

Team Langley Airmen are dishing out their best culinary creations and superb service in the hunt for the 2012 Air Combat Command John L. Hennessy Trophy during evaluations Nov. 7 and 8.

The Hennessy Trophy is presented to Air Force installations, in single and multiple facility categories, for having the best food service program in the Air Force.

Langley is among the finalists competing with Beale Air Force Base, Calif., for the ACC-level award. The winner of each major command's award will compete for the Air Force-level honor.

The 633rd Force Support Squadron's diverse food service program offers robust menu selections at both the Crossbow and Raptor Café dining facilities.

"Menu variety is paramount to keeping our customers happy," said Master Sgt. Francis Abrenica, Crossbow dining facility manager. "Our food court with main line service, specialty bar, deli and burger bar, and specialty meals do just that."

"The Raptor Café sets the standard for fast food dining," said Staff Sgt. Adrienne Meadows, Raptor Café manager. "We offer over 20 fast food items along with a daily hot plate special, and a rotating soup and sandwich menu that keeps our warfighters fit to fight."

The Hennessy Trophy is named in honor of the late John L. Hennessy, one of the nation's most capable and respected hotel and restaurant executives, who as part of the former Atomic Energy Commission, encouraged a competition among military food service facilities to inspire better management and command support of food service.

According to 1st Lt. Keturah Johnson, the 633rd FSS food service officer, the squadron's food service team has worked "extremely hard" this past year to prepare for the competition.

"To win the competition would be the ultimate prize for our staff and our customers," she said.
