Army Support Activity, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, changes command

By Tetaun Moffett 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Army Support Activity, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, changed commanders during a ceremony Nov. 4 outside the Regimental Memorial Chapel on Fort Eustis. Capt. Samuel A. Arnett took over for Capt. Robert E. Ross, who commanded the activity for more than 14 months.

First to make remarks was Col. Thomas R. Wetherington, 733rd Mission Support Group commander. He said Ross, who was a former senior enlisted NCO, brought a different dynamic and capability to the command.

"As a commander, it is always great to have an officer with Bob's talent and ability. There's nothing better than having a commander that operates off intent. I had total confidence in Bob to accomplish every mission," Wetherington said.

Wetherington also welcomed Arnett to the command.

"Sam, it is no mistake that you are now serving in your second command as the ASA commander. You're a talented officer and there is no doubt you will do great things. It's great to have you, enjoy your opportunity to command," he said.

Next to make remarks was Ross, who welcomed and thanked everyone for coming out to share their support.

"If it hadn't been for the civilian workforce here at ASA, HHC, there was no way I could have accomplished anything. We have a group of dedicated community leaders who take care of Joint Base Langley Eustis and it's been an honor to serve here at ASA, HHC," he said.

Afterwards, Ross thanked his wife for her support and professionalism.

The final speaker was Arnett, former commander of the 221st Military Police Detachment on Fort Eustis.

"I look forward to the new challenges ahead at ASA and Joint Base Langley-Eustis," Arnett said. In closing, he thanked his wife, Sara Jane, for her being by his side and Ross for all of his support and guidance during the transition.
