Wired-up, fired-up: 633rd CS wins big at 9th AF annual awards

By Staff Sgt. Jeff Nevison 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The 633rd Communications Squadron earned the Ninth Air Force Large Unit Award and 11 other accolades in October, the most annual awards won by a squadron at Langley Air Force Base.

Through several deployment taskings and missions, the 633rd CS still manages to accomplish their mission.

"Having communications capabilities is one of the constant requirements at every deployed location no matter what," said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Granger, 633rd CS commander. "The success of our teammates is a result of the success of both the buildup in Afghanistan and the redeployment out of Iraq."

The squadron's achievements extend beyond Langley, as their efforts impact the Air Force mission globally.

"We are the conduit that provides the communications picture to 63 other ACC bases," Granger said. "We also provide connectivity capabilities for the Eastern Seaboard, including Europe and Africa."

Chief Master Sgt. Bruce Scott, the 633rd CS superintendant, attributes much of the squadron's success to the hard work of its Airmen.

"Unit morale is good, which means the Airmen like being here and they like to work," said Scott. "Meanwhile the unit is constantly getting hit with over five types of deployment taskings, so we're always 100 percent in the fight."
