LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The Cirque Du Soleil "Quidam" Bus Tour stopped at Langley Air Force Base Dec. 2, providing interactive entertainment to base personnel at the Community Center.
The 45-foot touring bus, wrapped in colorful graphics, featured video monitors showing trailers of the groups "Quidam" show, scheduled at the nearby Hampton Coliseum this weekend. Photographers used green-screen technology to give visitors the experience of being "in the show," as well as creating "Quidam"-themed video postcards to send to friends and family.
Cirque Du Soleil performers were on hand to greet and entertain guests to promote interest in the traveling spectacle, now in its 15th year. Representatives handed out snacks and took photographs of fans, while performers dances on stilts, even walking through the Exchange Mall lobby to greet customers.
According to the show's website, "Quidam" centers on a young girl, Zoé, who is alienated and ignored by her parents. In her boredom, she daydreams the imaginary settings of "Quidam" as a means of escaping the monotony of her life.
"Quidam" is the name of the titular character, imagined as a man without a head, carrying an umbrella and bowler hat. Per the Cirque Du Soleil literature, the character is "the embodiment of both everyone and no one at the same time," described as "a nameless passer-by, a solitary figure lingering on a street corner, a person rushing past... one who cries out, sings and dreams within us all."
