LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The Air Force Inspection Agency Health Services Inspection Team and Joint Commission Surveyors awarded USAF Hospital Langley "Best Practice" and "Excellent" laurels following a recent inspection of the 633rd Medical Group's operations.
Per the HSI's final report, the 633rd MDG is "fulfilling the healthcare needs of their beneficiary population in an excellent manner while meeting the mission requirements" of their host and tenant units.
"A positive, well-disciplined and empowered medical group is a reflection of an involved and strong executive leadership team," the report continues. "This extremely busy Air Force hospital is balancing a major military construction overhaul and limited workspace due to its renovation while seeing its enrollment grow to the third largest in the Air Force," referring to the hospital's 38,000 beneficiaries.
The TJC report on the hospital denoted only four Direct Impact Findings and 10 Indirect Impact Findings. On average, hospitals of comparable size in the country have two to three times as many findings.
As a result of the inspection, USAF Hospital Langley received the Joint Commission "Gold Seal of Approval," indicating the hospital meets the highest of national standards in the country. In addition, the commission identified 10 "Best Practices," including one "Best in the Country."
"The men and women of the 633rd Medical Group have much to be proud of and have modeled what sustained performance is all about. It's one thing to bring a program online, but quite another to sustain it over the long-haul," said Col. John C. Sell, HSI team chief. "It became readily apparent to this inspection team that our Langley medics had worked hard over the past three years to ensure program compliance did not sag while successfully coping with the dynamics behind meeting the day-to-day mission.
"Thumbs up to all on a job very well done."
