Tops In Blue bringing song, spectacle back to Hampton Roads

By Senior Airman Jason J. Brown 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Tops In Blue, the Air Force's premier entertainment showcase, will bring their travelling, singing spectacle to the Hampton Roads Convention Center Jan. 26.

This year's world tour, "Rhythm Nation," celebrates the music of America, chronicling the history of popular music, and its evolution through new rhythms and technology. The free performance will include jazz, rock 'n' roll, Motown and even country music, among others.

In addition to a wide variety of musical genres and eras represented, the show will feature Tops in Blue's precision choreography and visual impact the troupe is known for.

The Tops In Blue team is comprised completely of active-duty Airmen, selected through auditions and trained in an intense 60-day course at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The team tours for 10 months before making way for the next year's group.

This year's tour will travel throughout the United States and to more than 20 countries, performing approximately 140 shows.

According to their website, Tops In Blue "is one of the oldest and most widely traveled entertainment groups of its kind. Composed of 35 to 40 of the most talented vocalists, musicians, dancers and technicians anywhere, their primary purpose is to perform for military personnel and their families throughout the world. However, the enormous popularity of the group has also made them America's goodwill ambassadors around the globe."

Doors open Jan. 26 at 5:45 p.m., and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. For more information about Tops In Blue, visit http://www.topsinblue.com.
