LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron earned two awards at the Air Force's 2011 Civil Engineer Annual Awards, capping off a milestone year for the unit.
The squadron's Asset Management Flight won the Maj. Gen. Del R. Eulberg Award for Outstanding Air Force CE Asset Management Flight, and Todd Barnes earned the Air Force Outstanding CE Civilian Manager of the Year Award.
"I'm incredibly proud of our Air Force winners and all our ACC nominees, as it's been a remarkable year for the squadron," said Lt. Col. Marc Vandeveer, the 633rd CES commander. "It's been the 'Year of asset management.' Our superb cross functional team and Asset Management Flight is leading the way in the Air Force with how we successfully manage limited resources using concise data and fact-based-decisions to ensure continued mission success for all our Team Langley mission partners."
Troy Andersen, the Asset Management Flight chief, attributed the flight's success to its mission partners in the squadron, including the Operations, Programs and Resources Flights.
"Winning this award is a great accomplishment and could not have been done without a tremendous amount of teamwork," said Andersen. "This teamwork combined with the concepts of asset management will guarantee that limited resources are allocated appropriately."
The pair of honors are the latest in what was a banner year for the decorated unit. Among its record-setting winnings at the 2011 Air Combat Command Civil Engineer Awards in September 2011, the 633rd CES earned the Robert H. Curtin Award for Outstanding CE Unit-Large, awarded to the best CE unit in Air Combat Command.
Additionally, the squadron deployed more than 170 Airmen worldwide in support of various combat and humanitarian aid missions, contributed to the Air Force's first ever F-22 phase one, operational readiness inspection, and participated in three major exercises in 2011.
