TRADOC band performs educational concerts

By U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Fort Eustis, Va.

The U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band, under the direction of Maj. Scott McKenzie, performed a series of educational outreach concerts in Williamsburg during the month of February.

The three performances at Lafayette High School, Bruton High School and Warhill High School reached over 500 middle and high school students involved in the schools' music and theater programs. The band's program featured members of the band performing as soloists and the program included traditional selections for concert band.

The performance at Warhill High School also included popular music performed by TRADOC Rock. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions following the performance and learned the requirements for becoming Army musicians.

The band has been preparing for their upcoming March 24 performance, Music of the Greatest Generation, but made time to rehearse and perform these school concerts.
"Community outreach is important to the band," said Staff Sgt. Jose Peña. "Performing in the schools lets us serve the community and tell the Army story."

Performances in Williamsburg also serve to raise awareness of Training and Doctrine Command's new home at Fort Eustis.
