Langley youth win 4-H competition

Langley AFB's Child & Youth Programs

Several members of the Youth Program at Langley Air Force Base, Va., recently created and submitted two collages to the Hampton 4-H Virginia Cooperative Extension to be entered into the Hampton Roads, Virginia State, and National Adobe Youth Voices Competition. The collages won the Virginia State award for the "Behind The Scenes" Adobe Youth Voices Collage competition.

In all, seven youth created collages, including Aysia McCoy, Ty Mercer, Jakayla Prince, Lesrael Johnson, Raymond Roscoe Jr., Azyia Bowen and Quinton Lane. They were helped by Tashiba Martin, Hampton 4-H Leader, and Arleen Diggs, Langley AFB's Child & Youth Programs Assistant.

The local competition was at the Hampton Virginia Cooperative Extension, and the submission from Langley's Youth program was chosen for the state competition. State competitions were held May 12, and awards were presented during the Adobe Youth Voices Digital Media Red Carpet Celebration at the Richmond, Va., Science Museum.

Individual participants of the Langley AFB 4-H Club received a Virginia 4-H Youth Voices Trophy, sponsored by Adobe Outstanding Achievement. State winners were submitted for National Competition. Langley AFB's two collage entries will be displayed at Langley AFB's Youth Programs facility.

The Youth Programs offer care before school, after school, full or half day school, holiday camps, summer day camps and hourly drop-in care. The Before and After School Program is conducted September through June, and Summer Day Camp is conducted June through August. In addition, full day care is provided during the winter and spring breaks.

The Youth Programs' mission is to provide a full range of community-based before- and after-school care, as well as summer programs that provide a safe, supervised and healthy environment for children ages 5-18. The School Age Program supports success in school, and promotes multicultural appreciation, literacy, recreational and leisure activities, community involvement and the arts.
