FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
Children of fallen Service members came together to enjoy a day of fun festivities and games at the Survivor Outreach Services' first "Kids Day Out Social" at the Fort Eustis Mini-park May 19.
Children ages 4-18 participated in a variety of activities, including batting cages, mini-golf and go-karting. The 733rd Force Support Division's SOS organized the event free of charge for the children and surviving parents.
Rochelle Crockett, the SOS support coordinator, said the weather was perfect, and everyone who attended enjoyed the exciting atmosphere.
"There were some children who initially said they didn't want to participate, but once they arrived and started having fun, they didn't want to leave," she said. "Their experience became exhilarating to watch."
Even parents managed to get in on the action.
"The mini-golf actually became more competitive for the adults," Crockett said.
Survivor Outreach Services is is an Army-wide program designed to provide dedicated and comprehensive support to survivors of deceased Soldiers. SOS extends support to families both before and after a crisis by maximizing cooperation between government and non-government agencies. Additionally, SOS ensures survivors receive all benefits to which they are entitled and encourages survivors to remain an integral part of the Army family for as long as they desire.
