FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
The 93rd Signal Brigade welcomed Col. Maria Biank as its new commander during a change of command ceremony at Fort Eustis' Jacobs Theater Aug. 13.
Biank succeeds Col. Todd Isaacson as commander of the unit, which boasts nearly 1,700 military and civilian personnel. The brigade is subordinate to the 7th Signal Command (Theater), located at Fort Gordon, Ga.
"I am humbled and honored as I stand before you this afternoon," the new commander said. "Humbled because the mantle of command is a heavy responsibility, and one that I take to heart. Honored to be part of such a great brigade, with roots that spread back to the Second World War."
Biank graduated from The College of William and Mary in nearby Williamsburg, Va., in 1990, and acceptined a commission as a second lieutenant in the Signal Corps through the Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program. She most recently served in Washington, D.C. on the Chief of Staff of the Army's transition team and the Army Staff's G3/5/7 LandWarNet Division.
She said she and her husband, Col. Cameron Leiker, an armor officer assigned to Headquarters Army Training and Doctrine Command, are "excited to begin the next chapter in their lives" at Fort Eustis.
"I look forward to serving with each of you, and will not let you down," Biank said, closing her remarks. "Lightning warrior six, checking into the net. Lightning warriors - one team, one network!"
Isaacson will move on to the Joint Staff's J6 directorate in Washington, D.C., for his next assignment.
The 93rd Sig. Bde. executes mission command of network operations and defense of the continental United States' LandWarNet to enhance and integrate warfighting functions for operating and generating forces engaged in unified land operations. The brigade leads the transformation of legacy communications systems and seamless integration of follow-on forces into the Global Network Enterprise.
