FORT EUSTIS, Va. –
A Volunteer of the Quarter ceremony was held at the U.S. Army Community Service at Fort Eustis, Va., and was hosted by Col. Thomas Wetherington, 733rd Mission Support Group commander, Nov. 2, 2012.
Volunteers play a vital role in supporting community organizations, and the ceremony was a way to recognize the dedication and commitment of outstanding Samaritans. Each organization selected a volunteer they felt had a significant impact on the community during the designated time frame.
Volunteers recognized at this quarter's ceremony were:
Lisa Carlo
Lisa is the Volunteer of the Quarter for Cub Scout Pack 45, where she volunteers as a den leader. Lisa was instrumental in leading her pack to earn the Summertime Pack Award. She also volunteered to be the pack's "popcorn kernel," meaning she was responsible for the overall coordination and success of the popcorn-sales fundraiser. She conducted a kick-off event, ordered popcorn, coordinated sales and locations, distributed popcorn to Scouts for delivery and submitted and distributed youth prizes.
Patricia Huerta
Patricia is the Volunteer of the Quarter for the 53rd Transportation Battalion, where she volunteers as the leader for the 70th Movement Control Team. Recently, the battalion commander consolidated four family readiness groups, and appointed Patricia as the leader. With her guidance, the family readiness group opened an informal funds account, recruited a volunteer staff, implemented monthly meetings and social events and conducted fundraisers.
Amy Sudduth
Amy is the Volunteer of the Quarter for the 7th Special Troops Battalion, where she volunteers as the family readiness group. As the family readiness group leader, she has taken steps to reach out and support all families and single soldiers. She spent countless hours assisting with the family readiness data sheets for over 600 families and single soldiers, ensuring information was gathered, logged and secured. She coordinated a bake sale and assisted in the coordination of a post-wide blood drive. She is also currently coordinating a food drive and Coats for Kids Drive for the Battalion.
Pamela Legere
Pamela is the Volunteer of the Quarter for the American Red Cross. She volunteers at the Women's Health Clinic at the McDonald Army Health Center. Pamela ensures that patients are called in a timely manner so the exam rooms are filled with patients, and prepared for examination, which shortens wait times. She is always willing to lend a hand by cleaning and stocking exam rooms and assisting patients when needed. She displays a friendly, caring and professional attitude while interacting with patients and staff. Her determination and dedication to quality patient care fosters an environment of service for better health.
Christy McGill
Christy is the Volunteer of the Quarter for the Spouses' Club of Fort Eustis. As the membership coordinator, she conducts membership campaigns. Due to her efforts, the Spouses' Club has grown to 94 members, and membership is increasing.
Bernadette West
Bernadette is the Volunteer of the Quarter for Army Community Service, where she volunteers as an administrative assistant. Bernadette assists with data entry, maintains files and provides information to community members.
