Fort Eustis Boulevard bridge construction project to begin in March

By Senior Airman Jason J. Brown 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The City of Newport News will begin their planned construction project on Fort Eustis Boulevard in March, replacing the bridge that cross the rail lines adjacent to Fort Eustis' Gate 1.

Post leadership will announce the exact lane closure dates at the beginning of March, but anticipate closures to begin no later than March 15.

The project, originally scheduled to begin in late 2012, is expected to take 15 to 24 months for completion from the new March start date.

Construction will have an immediate impact on traffic flow to and from Fort Eustis. Organizations on post are encouraged to implement pre-planned traffic mitigation strategies to alleviate congestion during peak times.

Additional information regarding the project, including lane closure dates and times, will be provided as it becomes available.
