Military spouse field exercise scheduled at Fort Eustis

By Airman 1st Class R. Alex Durbin 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The Army Wife Network's Spouse Field Exercise is scheduled to be held at the Fort Eustis Club May 16 from 5 to 9 p.m., and May 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Fort Eustis.

The seminar is led by AWN co-founders, and authors of "1,001 Things To Love About Military Life," Tara Crooks and Star Henderson.

The event is designed to empower military families, and offers military-life survival tips, practical military family resources, networking opportunities, gift bags and giveaways, resource bags and complimentary taco and dessert bars.

"Less than 1 percent of our U.S. population serves in the military, and their families have taken the brunt of the sacrifice of war," said Henderson. "This event aims to rejuvenate military families."

Free childcare is also available through Parent Central. All reservations for childcare must be made by May 2. Parent Central can be reached Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at (757) 878-4025.

The event is not just open to Army spouses, but everyone involved in the military community of all service branches.

"During struggling and uncertain times, it is very easy to lose your rose-colored glasses and become overwhelmed with worry and doubt about this military journey," said Crooks. "We encourage everyone to attend and network to strengthen bonds. It's a great reminder of why we love this life."

Both speakers are greatly experienced, and can identify with the challenges of military families. After leaving active-duty service, Henderson wanted to continue serving. After deploying as a Soldier and earning a counseling degree, she was uniquely qualified to help military families with the trials they face.

Crooks founded Army Wife Talk Radio in 2005 during her husband's first deployment, and has since garnered a following in the subsequent years.

"Our fans are our military family," she said. "There is nothing like helping one of our brothers or sisters in arms by leading them to a resource to make their life a little easier."
