JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
Joint Base Langley-Eustis will be accepting donations at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, for the Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign on base March 18 through April 26.
The AFAF Campaign is designed to support Airmen and their families during emergency situations where financial assistance would be needed.
The funds of the AFAF would help Air Force family members in need including active duty, retirees, reservists, guard and even dependents to include surviving spouses.
The AFAF helps to raise funds through contributions which would go toward the four specific charitable organizations. The charitable organizations are the Air Force Aid Society, Air Force Enlisted Village, Air Force Villages, and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation.
These charitable organizations will help to supply emergency aid to Air Force members and their families in need of financial assistance in the form of educational needs or securing a retirement home for widows or widowers of Air Force family members.
“This program is of huge importance because of the four different charities under the program,” said Master Sgt. Derek Crader, NCO in charge of medical support with the 633rd Contracting Squadron. “The one that a lot of people can relate to initially, at least while they are active duty, is the Air Force Aid Society which provides grants and loans for active duty Airmen who are in emergency situations.”
The donations from these organizations go towards assisting Air Force families in their time of need.
“Personally, they helped me out when I was an Airmen,” said Crader. “They actually gave me an interest-free loan so I could fly to my grandmother’s funeral and bring my wife along with me as well.”
