JBLE kicks off CFC

By Airman 1st Class Anthony Nin Leclerec 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

Langley Air Force Base kicked off the Combined Federal Campaign at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, Oct. 22, 2018.

“The CFC is one of the world's largest and most successful federal workplace charity campaigns that allows federal employees, retirees and contractors to give back to thousands of charities,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Erica Rose, 633rd Air Base Wing Inspector General superintendent. “Over the last 57 years, CFC has raised over $8.3 billion impacting people locally and around the world.”

Today, the CFC is known to be the most inclusive workplace giving campaign in the world with over 20,000 participating nonprofit charitable organizations worldwide. The charities supported through the CFC range from emerging community groups to large, well-known charities.

“The CFC allows federal workers to give to local, national or international charities close to their hearts and make a positive difference in people's lives,” Rose said. “They can Show Some Love by making a financial pledge or volunteer time either online or by submitting a pledge form.”

In 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower formally tasked the U.S. Office of Personnel Management with the responsibility for developing of a uniform policy for fundraising within the federal service. The CFC was officially founded in 1961 when President John F. Kennedy signed an executive order authorizing the U.S. Civil Service Commission to develop guidelines to regulate fundraising for federal employees.

“We want to ensure all federal employees are aware of the campaign and how they can make a difference by making a pledge,” Rose said. “The campaign officially opened Sept. 10 and runs through Jan. 11, 2019. JBLE’s goal is to reach $100,000 in pledges.”

In each of the 320 CFC areas throughout the country, local and national nonprofit organizations collaborate closely with committees of volunteer Federal employees to design marketing strategies for the campaign and to process the receipt and distribution of Federal employee contributions to the charities they choose.
