Lieutenant General Michael C. McCurry was initially commissioned as a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1988 under the Early Commissioning Program. Following graduation, he became a Regular Army Aviation Officer and a Scout Helicopter Pilot. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science from the University of Idaho, a Master of Arts in National Strategic Policy from the U.S. Naval War College, and a Master of Science in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College. He is a graduate of the National Security Policy Program and the Naval Operational Planner’s Course (now MAWS), and is a certified Joint and Maritime Operational Planner.
His command and leadership assignments include: Platoon Leader, 2d Battalion, 82d Aviation Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Operation DESERT STORM, Saudi Arabia and Iraq; Troop Commander, 3d Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment and HHC Commander, 2d Battalion (Attack), 25th Aviation Regiment, Fort Drum, New York; Deputy Brigade Commander Task Force 49, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, Baghdad, Iraq; Squadron Commander, 6th Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment and Task Force Saber, Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and Operation NEW DAWN, Kirkuk, Iraq; Deputy Commander United States Army Alaska, Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Commander, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Drum, New York; Deputy Commanding General, 2d Infantry Division, Camp Red Cloud/Humphreys, Korea; and Commanding General US Army Aviation Center of Excellence, Fort Rucker, Alabama.

He served as the Director of Security and Assurance, Operation WARP SPEED, Washington, DC, and Chief of Staff, Army Futures Command, Austin, Texas.
His military awards and decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit with silver oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Medal with Numeral 3, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with one oak leaf cluster, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the Valorous Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, the Meritorious Unit Citation, the Army Superior Unit Award, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with four Campaign Stars, Global War on Terror Expeditionary and Service Medals, the Army Service Ribbon, seven Overseas Service Ribbons, and both Governments of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia-Kuwait Liberation Medals. LTG McCurry is married to the former Sara Goodwin of Fort Rucker, Alabama. They have six children and five grandchildren. Two of his children and one son-in-law are currently serving in the Army, while another son is a disabled veteran paratrooper.
