Sergeant Major Rubin S. Chery

Sergeant Major Rubin S. Chery, a native of East Orange, New Jersey, enlisted in the United States Army in August of 1997. He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Advanced Individual Training at Ft Eustis, Virginia as a Cargo Specialist (88H). SGM Chery has served in various duty positions and assignments that include: Cargo Handler, 403rd CTC, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Cargo Checker, Squad Leader, Training NCO, Section Sergeant, Operations Sergeant, and Platoon Sergeant at 368th SOC, Fort Story, Virginia; Platoon Sergeant, 551st ICTC, Camp Carroll, Korea; AIT Platoon Sergeant, E Company, 244th Quartermaster Battalion, Fort Lee, Virginia; Detachment Sergeant, 276th ACDD 11th Battalion; First Sergeant, 119th ICTC and Battalion Operations NCOIC, 11th Battalion at Fort Story, Virginia, and Senior Cargo NCO, 831st Transportation Battalion (SDDC), Manama, Bahrain, First Sergeant for D Company, 71st Transportation Battalion, Army Logistics University at Fort Lee, Virginia, First Sergeant of the 2nd Staff and Faculty Company, 71st Transportation Battalion at Fort Eustis, Virginia; Senior Enlisted Advisor, USFK J4 Camp Humphreys, Korea and the Battalion Sergeant Major of the 842nd Transportation Battalion.

 

SGM Chery has deployed to Kuwait and Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and Bahrain in support of Operation Drum Beat.

 

SGM Chery is a graduate of the Sergeant Majors Academy, Company Commander and First Sergeant Course, Senior Leaders Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Basic Leaders Course, AIT Platoon Sergeants Course, Master Resiliency Trainer Course, Battle Staff Course, Joint Logistics Course, Army Air Assault Course, Warrior Transition Unit Cadre Course, Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Course, Equal Opportunity Leaders Course, Combat Life Savers Course, Air Load Planning, Supervisor Development Course, Defense Packing and Hazmat Course, and the FBCB2 Course.

 

SGM Chery has a Bachelor of Science in Leader Workforce Development from The U.S. Army Command General Staff College, an Associate’s Degree in Multi-Disciplinary Studies from Grantham University, and is currently working on his Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Columbia Southern University.

 

SGM Chery’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (5 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Navy Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal (5), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq and Afghanistan Campaign Medals, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (6), Air Assault Badge, the Drivers and Operators Badges.

 

SGM Chery has an awesome daughter, Amani (20), who resides in Philadelphia, PA, and attends Temple University.
