COLONEL DONALD E. KIRKLAND

Col. Donald E. "Gene" Kirkland is the 633d Air Base Wing commander at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va. As the Joint Base Commander, he commands three groups, providing installation support to over 18,000 Air Force and Army personnel, including Headquarters Air Combat Command, three operational wings, two brigades and more than 20 major associate units. Colonel Kirkland is also responsible for providing mission-ready expeditionary Airmen to combatant commanders in support of joint and combined operations worldwide.

Colonel Kirkland entered the Air Force in 1988 through Officer Training School. He is a career aircraft and munitions maintenance officer and completed a broadening tour in logistics plans. He also has served on the J4 logistics staffs at United States Central Command and The Joint Staff.
