Lieutenant Colonel (LTC) Matthew T. Amsdell is a native of Oil City, Pennsylvania and entered military service in the United States Army Reserves as a Motor Transport Operator in 1996. He is a graduate of Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania and earned a Bachelors of Science in Social Work. He also holds a Masters of Arts in Management from Webster University.
In 2002, he received his commission to Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). Upon graduation from the Officer Basic Course in 2002, he was assigned to 10th Transportation Battalion, 7th Transportation Group (Composite) at Fort Eustis, Virginia. His positions included Platoon Leader and Executive Officer of 73rd Transportation Company (Floating Craft), Liaison Officer to United States Army South, and Battalion Assistant Operations Officer. After completing the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course in October of 2006, he was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division as part of a Military Training Team. Following his deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), he was assigned to 65th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii as a Forward Support Company Commander. He served in that position from 2008 until relinquishing command in 2010 following another tour in support of OIF. LTC Amsdell then served as the Material Maintenance Branch Chief in 45th Sustainment Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command until his departure in 2011.
In January 2011, LTC Amsdell was assigned to the University of Vermont as the Assistant Professor of Military Science where he served until June 2013. Following completion of the Command and General Staff College, LTC Amsdell was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division as the Brigade Logistics Officer (S4) and later served as the Support Operations Officer. While serving as the Support Operations Officer he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In June 2016 he was assigned to Headquarters, United States Army Pacific as a Mobility Operations Officer in the Sustainment Branch. Following a successful assignment, he was selected to be the Secretary of the General Staff, 8th Theater Sustainment Command. His last assignment was the Professor of Military Science at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
LTC Amsdell’s military education includes the Transportation Officer Basic Course, Combined Logistics Captains Career Course, Command and General Staff College, Support Operations Course, and Instructors Training Course.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (5th Award), the Army Commendation Medal (4th Award), the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon (4th Award), the NATO Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
He is married to Kelly Ann Amsdell from Warminster, Pennsylvania and they have two daughters Lexey and Liley.
