Get set for Wingman Day

By Bernadette Hardy Sexual Assault Response Coordinator

Sept. 28 is Wingman Day at Langley Air Force Base.

The 28th has been declared a no-fly day in which the 1st Fighter Wing and some of its tenants will slow down to reassess the goals and vulnerabilities of the units, while not forgetting to celebrate accomplishments and strengths.

The objective of the day is to also strengthen morale while building relationships between coworkers.

Taking care of each other is a full-time concept called The Wingman Program; we take this one day a year to bring the concept to the forefront, and reinforce the concept and reacquaint Airmen with the intent of the program.

"The Wingman concept is more than an annual event - it is Airmen taking care of Airmen all year long," said Lt. Gen. Roger Brady, Manpower and Personnel.

Wingman concept principles

-Culture of Responsible Choices - Airmen making responsible choices to take care of themselves and their fellow Airmen

-Responsible drinking behavior

-Safe practices at home, work and on vacation

-Effective identification of and intervention with troubled Airmen

-Effective suicide prevention

-Effective sexual assault response and prevention

-Effective domestic violence intervention and prevention

-Effective financial management

-Responsible decision-making and behavior in all phases of our lives

Squadrons will plan actives unique to the needs of the unit and be complemented with the main event - four presentations sponsored by the 1st Fighter Wing on "Living Life at Performance Level" presented by Curtis Zimmerman of the Character Institute.

Mr. Zimmerman's institute has delivered dynamic and entertaining programs to America's corporate and university lecture circuit. A premier novelty entertainer for 25 years, he has incorporated his extraordinary talents into a highly interactive lecture with far-reaching messages.

Join us, as we experience Universal Studios Entertainer of the Year in an educational seminar. Prepare yourselves to be empowered, challenged and changed;
Shows are scheduled for 8 and 10:15 a.m., and 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. live at the 94th Fighter Squadron Hangar, 170 Flight Line Rd. IDS

People Helping People agencies will also be present to provide community-based program information and support to attending Airmen.
