Air Force Gala set for Sept. 7

By Staff Sgt. Misty D. Slater 1st Fighter Wing Public Affairs

The Air Force Gala, Langley's celebration of the Air Force's 60th Anniversary, is scheduled for Sept. 7 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Bayside Enlisted Club here.

This is a military event based on tradition, customs and courtesies, to show appreciation with enthusiasm where we have progressed to, said Chief Master Sgt. Ellis Clark, 1st Equipment Maintenance Squadron first sergeant.

The event offers an opportunity for Airmen, from senior leaders to the newest recruit, to  immerse themselves in Air Force and 1st FW traditions, Chief Clark said.

The Gala will not be a ordinary sit and eat event, but instead will feature several bands providing live entertainment throughout the evening.

The Air Force kicked off its 60th Anniversary observance Oct.14, 2006 with the official dedication of the Air Force Memorial at Arlington, Va. The Air Force Gala here is just one of many events to commemorating the anniversary .

People who'd like to attend the event should contact their unit first sergeants for tickets. Dress for the event is mess dress or semi-formal for servicemembers and  tuxedo or gown for civilians. Ticket prices vary based on grade.
