7th Trans. Bde. (Ex.) Soldiers celebrate during Resolute Ball

By Capt. Derrick Dixon 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary)

U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, gathered for the Resolute Ball in Newport News, March 2, 2017.

According to U.S. Army Col. Stacy Townsend, 7th Trans. Bde. (Ex) commander, the annual Resolute Ball is a time-honored tradition where all brigade members and families come together to foster camaraderie and esprit de corps within the unit.

The brigade’s operations vary each year and several units may be deployed at any given time, because of this, the ball is scheduled within a flexible window to allow as many Soldiers as possible to attend.

Townsend welcomed approximately 570 Soldiers and guests and introduced the guest speaker for the night’s event, Maj. Gen. Anthony Funkhouser, Center for Initial Military Training commander.

Funkhouser recognized spouses for the sacrifices they make, as well as the hard work the Soldiers perform every day.

“They are the ones making the sacrifice for you to do your job every day,” said Funkhouser. “Appreciate your Soldier and what they do in their uniform every day because it is special.”’

Funkhouser told Soldiers they should be proud to work together as a team, and drew parallels to the pride in which a sports team fan has.

“You are a part of the Army team. All of that history in this profession is written by you, so appreciate and learn your profession,” said Funkhouser. “You will write the history; your unit will make history so become a fanatic, a fan, of the Army because it is your team.”

The evening also included the traditional receiving line, singing of the Transportation Corp. Song and Army Song, ceremonial toast and punch bowl ceremony.
