Command Sergeant Major Jared M. Matthews

Command Sergeant Major Jared M. Matthews is a native of Gladwin, Michigan. He entered the U.S. Army in August of 1998. He attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and awarded the PMOS of Motor Transport Operator (88M).

CSM Matthews' key assignments and duties include Vice Chair, Department of Command Leadership Sergeants Major Academy; Command Sergeant Major, 82d Special Troops Battalion, Fort Bragg; Battalion Sergeant Major, 833d Transportation Battalion (SDDC), Joint Base Lewis McChord; Operations NCIOC, 4th Sustainment Brigade, Fort Carson; First Sergeant, 32d Composite Truck Company, Fort Carson; Mobility Operations Sergeant, 8th Army, Yongsan, Korea; First Sergeant, 135th Forward Support Company, 3/27 Field Artillery Battalion High-Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS), Fort Bragg; First Sergeant, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 188thBrigade Support Battalion, Fort Bragg; Chief of Operations and Senior Small Group Leader, XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg, Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Fort Bragg. SGM Matthews' assignments include the 172nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Fort Wainwright, Military District of Washington, Fort McNair, and the 3rd U.S. Infantry (The Old Guard), Fort Myer. He has multiple combat tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Spartan Shield.

CSM Matthews' military education and civilian education includes the Warrior Leader Course, Advanced Leaders Course (Honor Graduate), Senior Leader Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate), U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 67 (Commandant's List), Airborne School, and Jumpmaster Course. He holds a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Pennsylvania State University and a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science with honors from American Military University.

CSM Matthews’ awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal (6OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4OLC), Army Achievement Medal (4OLC), Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, German Parachutist Badge, and Driver Badge. He is a recipient of the Ancient Order of the Saint Christopher Medal.

CSM Matthews is married to Cindy of Escondido, California, and has two daughters.
