Army welders fuse their mark on Third Port
May 10, 2017 — Among the vessels at Joint Base Langley Eustis’ Third Port sits a shop that keeps boats afloat through meticulous detailed work. The 558th Transportation Company, 10th Battalion, 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) welding shop ensures ships’ crews stay safe underway through quick and reliable metal fabrication services within the port. While the metals technologists work solely on ship materials, their job encompasses an array of detail oriented work, from a boat’s hull to pipes on its air conditioning unit. “Welding is insanely important,” said U.S. Army Spc. Anthony Cole, 558th Transportation Company allied trade specialist. “When you look around, anything you look at has welds on it, has been machined and put together somehow. If you don’t have a good weld, it’s a danger to anyone who uses that item.”... MORE

History, heroes walk among us
April 26, 2017 — Twelve members from the longest running military service organization in the United States, the Legion of Valor, toured Joint Base Langley-Eustis, April 21, 2017. Founded originally as the Medal of Honor Legion in 1890, the Legion of Valor was later chartered by an act of Congress in 1955, adding U.S. Air Force Cross recipients to the organization. Legion of Valor members are recipients of the nation’s highest recognition for heroism in combat, either receiving the Distinguished Service Cross and Navy Cross to the Congressional Medal of Honor or Air Force Cross, and are honored through the organization... Wounded warriors prove ‘life without limbs is limitless’
April 19, 2017 — The Newport News police and fire departments competed against the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team in a seven-inning game, April 15, 2017, to raise awareness for the sacrifices and resiliency of the nation’s veterans. The WWAST is comprised of veterans and active-duty members who lost limbs while serving in the military since 9/11. The members’ amputations range from above the knee to below the elbow, and they hope to educate others that “life without limbs is limitless.”... MORE

From victims to survivors: changing the conversation about sexual assault

Ft. Eustis hosts town hall
March 29, 2017 — Leadership from the 733rd Mission Support Group and the Center for Initial Military Training hosted a town hall to address the concerns of the Fort Eustis community at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, March 24, 2017. Small town friends become hometown heroes
March 29, 2017 — Driving down the highway, foliage covering either side of the road, two friends watch in awe, as a car in front of them flips over, landing on a set of train tracks. Slamming on the brakes, they came to a screeching halt next to the crash. The friends rushed to the car and began yelling, as they searched for survivors amongst the inflated air bags and wreckage. Conscious, the driver muttered a weak “hello,” and was found trapped between the crushed roof and back seats. The friends were shocked she managed to walk away having only suffered from minor cuts and bruises... MORE

Spouses Luncheon brings services together
March 22, 2017 — Spouses from Joint Base Langley-Eustis and Norfolk Naval Station came together for a Joint Services Luncheon at the Ft. Eustis Club, March 16, 2017. The three Spouses’ Clubs in Hampton Roads gather annually for the luncheon to provide members with an opportunity to learn about each service’s unique traditions, exchange ideas and foster camaraderie.
