Fit to fight: one fighter wing at a time

As aviators know proper maintenance of aircraft is key to providing combat capabilities. Just as aircraft need to be maintained and ready to fly, optimizing the human weapon system is also critical. Pilots themselves must be healthy and ready to fight tonight. To ensure pilots are ready at a moment’s notice, the 1st Fighter Wing has embedded U.S. Air Force Capt. Michelle Jilek, a physical therapist with the 633rd Medical Operations Squadron to help increase mission effectiveness.

Hurricane Dorian Evacuation Order:

Hurricane Dorian Evacuation Order Update: As we continue to monitor Hurricane Dorian, our weather experts at JBLE are now anticipating a storm surge of 7 feet on Friday at 2 p.m. Col. Clinton Ross, 633rd Air Base Wing commander, has amended the evacuation order to include all dorm residents on Langley Air Force Base, effectively immediately. With this new change all dorm residents, Lighter-Than-Air housing, Heavier-Than-Air housing and all lodging facilities are required to evacuate to their safe haven location by 5 p.m. Sept. 5. The Safe Haven location shall not exceed 750 miles and should be located outside of the designated evacuation area, in a “safe” location. Per Diem entitlements that are paid to each evacuee are as follows; transportation and per diem en-route, Lodging and meals/incidental expenses at safe haven location. Lodging is paid for commercial quarters and must be documented by receipt and are mandatory for reimbursement. Dedicated to the Raptor

The 106 degree Fahrenheit heat beats down on the Nellis Air Force Base flightline where crew chiefs work tirelessly to complete the mission of Red Flag 19-3. Out of the more than 20 units from across the U.S. Armed Forces and Australian Air Force that attended the exercise, the crew chiefs from the 94th Aircraft Maintenance Unit worked to ensure that eight of the 1st Fighter Wing’s F-22 Raptors were prepared to complete their mission.

In a historic deployment, Airmen and F-22 Raptors have been sent to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar for the first time in order to defend American forces and interests in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

1st FW takes charge at Red Flag

The 1st Fighter Wing F-22 Raptors, air crew and support personnel from Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, arrived at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, July 10 in support of Red Flag 19-3. Red Flag is an air combat training exercise that begins July 15, 2019 and will conclude Aug. 2, 2019. The exercise is designed to train units on realistic combat-like situations with U.S. and allied forces in a controlled environment.

1st Fighter Wing welcomes new commander

The 1st Fighter Wing welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony held at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, June 21, at the Bayview Commonwealth Center. U.S. Air Force Col. David R. Lopez assumed command for the 1st Fighter Wing from U.S. Air Force Col. Jason T. Hinds.
