Spouses Luncheon brings services together
March 22, 2017 — Spouses from Joint Base Langley-Eustis and Norfolk Naval Station came together for a Joint Services Luncheon at the Ft. Eustis Club, March 16, 2017. Connecting with veterans through unique therapy
March 17, 2017 — Throughout her weekly meetings and tasks, Jamie Reed takes moments to stare at the foliage outside her office window. During those brief moments, Reed looks forward to the one day of the month when she can get her hands dirty working alongside service members and civilians to take care of garden plots at the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center’s horticultural therapy garden. National Nutrition Month: Puts Best Fork Forward
March 8, 2017 — National Nutrition Month is an educational campaign organized every March by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, which is designed to emphasize the importance of developing and maintaining healthy eating choices and physical activity habits. This year’s theme for the campaign is ‘Put Your Best Fork Forward,’ which acts as a reminder that each bite counts and how simple changes in food choices can have positive effect over time. The theme is geared toward encouraging individuals to start with small changes in eating habits, such as preparing meals at home or making healthy selections while out. ... MORE

Born Under Fire: Soldiers, Airmen learn to maintain air assault weapons
March 1, 2017 — Along a half-mile radius at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, large warehouses filled with 300 different training simulators and approximately 3,000 computer stations provide a real-life training experience for U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force helicopter maintenance students. In those warehouses, instructors and course developers assigned to the 128th Aviation Brigade transform approximately 6,000 aviation maintenance, logistics and leadership students into technically qualified aviation maintainers and logisticians as tactically proficient aviation maintenance leaders every year. The 128th Avn. Bde. earned its name, ‘Born Under Fire,’ when it was temporarily formed during Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. The brigade served there until its deactivation in 1995, and was then reactivated in 2012. ... MORE

Contracting: filling manpower gaps
February 28, 2017 — From line cooks to the total demolition of a building, the 633rd Contracting Squadron at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, helps guarantee that the installation has the end strength to keep running. Before the U.S. Air Force minimized its personnel by 41 percent in 1990, Airmen executed the majority of base operations services, such as dining facilities, grounds maintenance and custodial services. As the size of the force has become smaller, members have had to continue the same missions, while their responsibilities increase in virtually every mission area. The 633rd Contracting Squadron at JBLE has offered a hand to fill those manpower gaps. ... MORE

Coast Guard utilizes skills gained through joint training
February 15, 2017 — A U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, transported U.S. Coast Guardsmen assigned to the Port Security Unit 305 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, to a deployed location, Feb. 8, 2017. The Coast Guardsmen accompanied security boats and essential equipment aboard the C-17 Globemaster III, while other members of the unit joined them the following week. “Overseas deployments for the Coast Guard as a whole, are minimal, especially for a reserve unit,” said U.S. Coast Guard Machinery Technician 1st Class Eric Zupan, PSU 305 crewmember. “Our port security unit and our sister unit are the only ones who do it, so it’s fairly unique to our service.” ... JBLE welcomes New Year’s baby
January 3, 2017 — At 7:02 p.m. on Jan. 1, U.S. Navy Seaman Keaton Tomlin and wife Chikeyva Tomlin became parents to Samaria Tomlin, the New Year’s baby of 2017 at the U.S. Air Force Hospital Langley at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.
