Fuel facilities supplies the ‘goods’ on, off flightline
April 12, 2017 — Outfitted in white overalls, gloves, boots, earplugs and a face shield, two U.S. Air Force Airmen cautiously perform their duties while surrounded by a shroud of vapors. They are donned in gear meant to protect them from the very substance that helps to protect lives at high altitudes. The scene resembles that of a science fiction movie— moving in slow motion as the various sounds of the flightline are subconsciously replaced by the eerie sound of shallow breaths in a mask. Ft. Eustis hosts town hall
March 29, 2017 — Leadership from the 733rd Mission Support Group and the Center for Initial Military Training hosted a town hall to address the concerns of the Fort Eustis community at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, March 24, 2017. According to U.S. Army Col. Ralph Clayton III, 733rd MSG commander, while his staff has worked to fulfill the needs of the mission and provide service to customers, processes can always be reevaluated. “There’s always room for improvement,” said Clayton. “We’re looking for your suggestions and comments, and we will make sure they are heard.”... Small town friends become hometown heroes
March 29, 2017 — Driving down the highway, foliage covering either side of the road, two friends watch in awe, as a car in front of them flips over, landing on a set of train tracks. Slamming on the brakes, they came to a screeching halt next to the crash. The friends rushed to the car and began yelling, as they searched for survivors amongst the inflated air bags and wreckage. Conscious, the driver muttered a weak “hello,” and was found trapped between the crushed roof and back seats. The friends were shocked she managed to walk away having only suffered from minor cuts and bruises... MORE

Spouses Luncheon brings services together
March 22, 2017 — Spouses from Joint Base Langley-Eustis and Norfolk Naval Station came together for a Joint Services Luncheon at the Ft. Eustis Club, March 16, 2017. The three Spouses’ Clubs in Hampton Roads gather annually for the luncheon to provide members with an opportunity to learn about each service’s unique traditions, exchange ideas and foster camaraderie. ACS offers leadership workshop for spouses

Connecting with veterans through unique therapy
March 17, 2017 — Throughout her weekly meetings and tasks, Jamie Reed takes moments to stare at the foliage outside her office window. During those brief moments, Reed looks forward to the one day of the month when she can get her hands dirty working alongside service members and civilians to take care of garden plots at the Hampton Veteran Affairs Medical Center’s horticultural therapy garden. 633 CES cartographers: mapping mission success
March 15, 2017 — Standing in a field under the warm, afternoon sun, a U.S. Air Force Airman breaks his gaze as he squints one eye before looking into a device which resembles an oversized Polaroid camera. U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Ryan Mundt, 633rd Civil Engineer Squadron engineering technician, was beginning to perform an optical site survey, one of the many duties of the 633rd CES mapping section. Born Under Fire: Soldiers, Airmen learn to maintain air assault weapons
March 1, 2017 — Along a half-mile radius at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, large warehouses filled with 300 different training simulators and approximately 3,000 computer stations provide a real-life training experience for U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force helicopter maintenance students. In those warehouses, instructors and course developers assigned to the 128th Aviation Brigade transform approximately 6,000 aviation maintenance, logistics and leadership students into technically qualified aviation maintainers and logisticians as tactically proficient aviation maintenance leaders every year. The 128th Avn. Bde. earned its name, ‘Born Under Fire,’ when it was temporarily formed during Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. The brigade served there until its deactivation in 1995, and was then reactivated in 2012. ... MORE

Contracting: filling manpower gaps
February 28, 2017 — From line cooks to the total demolition of a building, the 633rd Contracting Squadron at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, helps guarantee that the installation has the end strength to keep running. Before the U.S. Air Force minimized its personnel by 41 percent in 1990, Airmen executed the majority of base operations services, such as dining facilities, grounds maintenance and custodial services. As the size of the force has become smaller, members have had to continue the same missions, while their responsibilities increase in virtually every mission area. The 633rd Contracting Squadron at JBLE has offered a hand to fill those manpower gaps. ... MORE
