TRADOC Band preps for 2021 Music under the Stars concert series

It’s the time of year when longer days and warmer weather draws people outdoors to relax and unwind at live music events throughout Hampton Roads.

To celebrate summer and bring the community together, the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Band is preparing to kick off its “Music Under the Stars” outdoor concert series.

“The TRADOC Band couldn’t be more excited to have an open concert with a full audience again, and how fitting it is that the first concert back is the beginning of our 89th season of Music Under the Stars,” said U.S. Army Lt. Col. Treg Ancelet, TRADOC Band commander. “Bring your chairs and picnic baskets to enjoy musical selections ranging from John Philip Sousa to John Williams featuring our very own Herald Trumpets.”

The concert series will start July 8th and conclude with the season finale scheduled for Aug. 19th. Performances will take place at 7 p.m. every other Thursday at Magnolia Park on Fort Eustis.

All concerts are free and open to the public; attendees may bring pets if they are on a leash. Individuals who do not possess a Department of Defense identification card can stop by the Visitors Center to obtain a pass.

While speaking about virtual events that took place during the pandemic, U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Osvaldo Corea, TRADOC Band production and public affairs NCOIC, said it’s not the same as the energy people share when attending live performances.

“We’re extremely happy to be able to perform for the community again and we’re also happy the restrictions were lifted so people can come out, bring their families and have a good time, sit there and enjoy the concerts,” Corea said.

As a long-standing summertime tradition for military families and community members, the MUTS concert series originated in Hampton, Virginia where the band performed on the grounds of Fort Monroe, which was deactivated in 2011.

2021 “Music Under the Stars” concert series schedule:

July 8 – Concert Band

July 22 – 380th Army Band

Aug. 5 – Show Band

Aug. 19 – 1812 Overture Season Finale (rain date Aug. 20)
