LOTS of training

By Senior Airman Anthony Nin Leclerec 633rd Air Base Wing Public Affairs

The 10th Transportation Battalion (Terminal) conducted a Logistics Over-the-Shore training at Joint Expeditionary Base-Little Creek, Virginia, Feb. 1 – 5, 2021.

The objective was to train in command and control, terminal, and redeployment operations to support joint LOTS and/or large-scale combat operations from a simulated port environment to a simulated corps support area.

The battalion deploys worldwide to provide watercraft and maintenance assets to conduct Combined, Joint and/or Service LOTS, Intra-theater lift and riverine operations in support of the operational commander.

“Our job is to bring combat power to the shore and push it to the end users,” said U.S. Army Maj. Aaron Michael Edmonds, 10th Trans. Bn. support operations officer. “And this training allows us to support combatant commanders and sister units in need of logistical assets to sustain the fight.”

The 10th Trans. Bn. aims to be the paramount terminal transportation battalion in the world, comprised of trained, fit and disciplined professionals. Equipped with the ability to execute operations anywhere around the globe at a moment’s notice, Soldiers are ready and capable to rapidly deliver logistics support at a moment’s notice.

“As a transportation management coordinator, this was a great exercise to focus on our skill set,” said Sgt. Adeen Gonzales, 10th Trans. Bn. (Terminal) headquarters and headquarters detachment. “We used equipment we normally don’t get the opportunity to use, other than when we're deploying. The system helps us track incoming cargo as it comes to our location.”

The training was successful due to the collective efforts of: the 492nd Transportation Detachment (Harbormaster), 558th Transportation Company, 359th Inland Cargo Transfer Company and 149th Seaport Operations Company.

“This collective training gives Soldiers the opportunity to focus on individual tasks while at same time giving companies the opportunity to lead their formation in achieving their manpower, equipment, training and sustainability (METS) for the quarter,” Edmonds said. “We are prepared to support of our sister units for LOTS operation to bring combat power to the shore.”
