The 733d Mission Support Group welcomed a new commander during a change of command ceremony held at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, June 25, 2020, at the Eustis Club. U.S Army Col. Chesley Thigpen, Jr., assumed command of the 733d MSG from U.S. Army Col. Jennifer Walkawicz.

McDonald introduces pagers for long wait times

The McDonald Army Health Center pharmacy introduced 60 restaurant style pagers to better help with long lines and wait times June 15, 2020. The pagers expand the pharmacy’s threshold for the number of patients it can serve on a daily basis. The inside lobby holds 12 patients and up to six can be at the windows at any given time, along with 60 patients with pagers.

Keeping readiness with a smile

Whether it’s providing guards, creating blueprints on a computer, building a bridge or designing a crown fit for a king, the U.S. Air Force 633rd Dental Squadron laboratory specialists can do it all. There is an average of 32 reasons in an Airman’s mouth to that could make them non-deployable and the 633rd DS takes care of each one. Multiply that by all the Airmen at Joint Base Langley-Eustis and that’s a lot of teeth.

Spiritual readiness takes flight

In order to maintain air superiority, the 1st Fighter Wing depends on combat ready Airmen across the flightline – to include spiritual health. To enhance readiness, the 1st Maintenance Group provided office space for a chaplain and a religious affairs Airman to be embedded, allowing the 1st FW Airmen to have more face time and support from the Chaplain Corps.

Eyes on it: optometry clinic ensures mission readiness

From annual eye exams to extracting debris from eyes, the Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, optometry clinic sees it all. Depending on real-world situations such as emergency patients or deployment requirements, personnel at the clinic may see between 30 to 50 patients a day. Serving not only Airman, but Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Coastguardsmen as well, the optometry staff work diligently to ensure each patient is fit to fight.

The 1st Fighter Wing at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, leads the way in combat capability and lethality in current operations worldwide, and serves as America's premier air dominance wing, led by next generation Airmen, integrated with its mission partners, and ready to fly, fight, and win...anytime, anyplace. In order to operate at this capacity, the Ready Aircrew Program establishes the minimum number of live training events and simulator missions that aircrews must complete during the annual training cycle to maintain readiness. But that does not prepare against all enemies.
