JBLE Airman first-ever to receive Army Instructor Badge

For the first time ever, a U.S. Air Force Airman was awarded the Basic Army Instructor Badge at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, April 9, 2018. U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Casey Andersen, 362nd Training Squadron, Detachment 1 HH-60 helicopter crew chief instructor, was teaching a class of Airmen and U.S. Army Soldiers when U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Malcom Frost, Center for Initial Military Training commanding general, presented him with the BAIB.

Airmen, Soldiers learn importance of joint warfighter

Born Under Fire: Soldiers, Airmen learn to maintain air assault weapons

Along a half-mile radius at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia, large warehouses filled with 300 different training simulators and approximately 3,000 computer stations provide a real-life training experience for U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force helicopter maintenance students. In those warehouses, instructors and course developers assigned to the 128th Aviation Brigade transform approximately 6,000 aviation maintenance, logistics and leadership students into technically qualified aviation maintainers and logisticians as tactically proficient aviation maintenance leaders every year. The 128th Avn. Bde. earned its name, ‘Born Under Fire,’ when it was temporarily formed during Operation Just Cause in Panama in 1989. The brigade served there until its deactivation in 1995, and was then reactivated in 2012.

1st FW Raptors, crew soar through flying hours

The 1st Fighter Wing’s F-22 Raptors collectively reached their flying hour mark this fiscal year of more than 6,000 hours. For each fiscal year, the flying hour program tasks the number of hours pilots need to acquire in order to maintain proficient in combative flying, based on budgeting and the maximum number of sorties the wing is capable of producing. With limited resources available, the 1st FW completing the hours was an intricate balance between progression in maintenance and tactical logistics, which guided the Raptors to success. “We have to maximize each and every sortie flown to reach the highest level of combat readiness,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Michael, 1st Operational Support Squadro¬¬¬¬n director of operations. “It takes a significant number of man-hours and resources to prepare and fix the aircraft for each and every flight.”
