The Adventure of a Lifetime
Royal Air Force Squadron Leader Alexander “Thorney” Thorne, 94th Fighter Squadron Foreign Exchange Officer, smiles for a photo at Joint Base Langley-Eustis June 15, 2021. Thorne led his replacement in the first two-ship ever flown by FEOs under the call-sign “Fiske” commemorating the historic occasion. William Meade Lindley “Billy” Fiske III was an American who served as a pilot in the Royal Air Force during the Battle of Britain; he was essential to the war effort and died in combat when his aircraft was shot down on August 17, 1940.
