Gone but never forgotten: Community honors fallen heroes
U.S. Coast Guardsmen render a salute after placing ceremonial wreaths during a Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, Va., May 29, 2017. The Memorial Day Observance originated from Observance Day, a tradition which began to honor those U.S. service members who died during the Civil War. It was officially proclaimed on May 5, 1868 by Gen. John Logan, Grand Army of the Republic national commander, in his General Order No. 11. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Teresa J. Cleveland)
