JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. –
Attending new schools and adjusting to new teachers, are part the moving process for children of Service members. With those changes come possible difficulties, but the Department of Defense provides a program called Tutor.com to help ease the transition.
Tutor.com is a website used by military families that allows students to connect to a live, qualified tutor online for one-on-one help with studying, homework and test preparation. Tutors for most subjects must have attained the level of college sophomore or higher or have graduated from an accredited university. The website is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week with no appointment needed.
The DOD's Tutor.com program is provided at no charge to students in kindergarten through the twelfth grade whose parent serves in the National Guard, reserve or active duty Armed Forces.
"A dependent of a Service member could move up to nine times before graduating high school," said Glendeline Lee, 633rd Force Support Squadron school liaison officer. "We are thankful the website is there for our Service members' children."
For safety reasons, the program requires background checks for every person who wants to become a tutor. To focus solely on the student, the tutor works anonymously and no personal information is shared during the sessions.
Tutor.com offers students a chance to maintain their academic work, gain confidence in their school work, and the opportunity to excel.
