Celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month in February

By Maj. Josh Hethcox 633d Dental Squadron

The month of February is set aside every year as National Children's Dental Health month; a time to provide oral health education to all children regardless of economic status.

The American Dental Association began sponsoring the event in 1949 to promote the importance of good oral health beginning at a young age. This nationwide program has educated millions of children across the country over the last 60 years by working through schools, public facilities, community groups, military bases and dental offices.

In support of the National Children's Dental Health Month celebration, the 633d Dental Squadron will be providing presentations in schools within the Hampton Roads community throughout the month of February.

The 633 DS will also have personnel at the Base Exchange Feb. 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to further educate the public on the importance of oral health in children and provide an opportunity to ask questions. T

They also plan to partner with a local general dentist to promote Nation Children's Dental Health month Feb. 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Patrick Henry Mall in Newport News.

To further highlight the importance of developing good oral health in children, there will be a series of articles published on topics such as fluoride, healthy habits for children, and the effects of nutrition on oral health.

Please contact your private or civilian dentist for other special events in the area associated with National Children's Dental Health Month. For more information, call the ADA at 1-800-947-4746 or visit www.ada.org/goto/ncdhm.
