LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. –
The 31st annual Hampton Bay Days festival is set to take place at downtown Hampton, Va., Sept. 6-8.
The festival is designed to educate the public on the importance of the Chesapeake Bay, and features special attractions including an arts and crafts show, water events, local educational exhibits and a children's area.
"Hampton Bay Days' main purpose is to educate the people of Hampton Roads about the importance of protecting and preserving the Chesapeake Bay ecosystem, so the community can continue to live, work and play," said Terry L. Anderson, president of the Bay Days Foundation.
The festival includes an 8k race and a one-mile "Color the Dolphin" fun run, a performance by the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band Blue Aces Ensemble from Langley Air Force Base, a competition showcasing high-flying canine athleticism, and a fireworks show.
In addition to the attractions, many downtown Hampton stores will set up booths at the festival.
"The event is going to help bring consumers to downtown Hampton," said Anderson.
The festival encompasses a 16-block area in downtown Hampton, bordered by the Hampton River, Pembroke and Armistead Avenues.
